Duvall Kitchen Project

This kitchen is an entertaining chef’s dream! A large countertop space to prep and dishes, double ovens, ceiling height cabinets, and a dedicated bar allow for large happy gatherings. With the removal of the walls between the kitchen and living space, the opened area allows for anyone working in the kitchen to be part of the party.

The living room next to the kitchen has two story tall ceilings, allowing these rich tall cabinets the space to breathe and fill the space. Removing the walls allowed for more light to fill the space, and to adjust the layout so that there was a spot for every appliance in the kitchen. Brushed nickel decorated all the finishes, including the beautiful backsplash that became the centerpiece above the stove.

Features that were added to this kitchen include heated tile flooring, roll out drawers for easy access, a custom wine cabinet, under-counter glassware holder, and an under-cabinet mixing bowl stand. These little details make it a dream to work in, and keep the countertops free for plenty of baking!

Before

This townhouse kitchen started out tiny and with an awkward layout leading to a lot of unusable space. The homeowners are avid bakers and love to entertain but struggled to have enough working space and storage with not enough cabinetry.

The adjoining living room was bright and airy but cut off from the kitchen due to walls. This gave the kitchen a cave-like feel isolating anyone in there from the rest of the house. The closets next to the kitchen were underutilized and not set up for storage for a kitchen.

The first thing to be decided was to remove as much of the walls as possible. This led to only one small beam needing to stay in place, turning into a convenient place for light switches, and heated floor thermostat. With the walls removed, and the closet gutted, the space to work with tripled. This allowed for a whole new layout, including a built-in bar for entertaining guests. The cabinets now went all the way to the ceiling creating lots of space for seasonal items, baking gear, and formal chinaware.

The clients opted to go with a dark cabinet, a rich chocolate brown. This contrasted well with the light tile, grey paint tones, and new wood flooring in the adjoining living room. Bespoke full-height cabinets, stainless steel accents, and beautiful tile make this space a true gem to be in.

Almost done!

The homeowners opted to update the adjoining living room during the remodel, including bringing in hardwood flooring and updating their fireplace to have a more modern feel.

We used the same tile from the kitchen floor around the fireplace to help tie the two areas together, and painted an accent wall a beautiful blue.
