Crown Hill Whole House Remodel
One of our biggest projects to date, this home in Northern Seattle went through a complete renovation leading to double the living space available. While it had great bones, the interior space was in need of updating and struggled with storage.
We designed a whole new layout for the unfinished basement, creating space for an entertainment area, a bathroom, and master bedroom. The space went from a dark basement, to a lovely retreat at the end of a busy day.
For the upstairs we created an open space by removing a wall dividing the kitchen from the living room, and tearing down a walk in the pantry. We brightened the room with lighter flooring, new paint, and a new window over the stairway. Plenty of bright countertop for prepping, and floating shelves for easy access make this space flow much easier. The fireplace was updated and wrapped with wood to match the kitchen, which shares the same wall.

Before

This house had a lot going for it, including a great location and potential to double the living space by finishing the downstairs basement. The upstairs had a wall separating the kitchen and living room causing both spaces to feel small. The kitchen had little space for prepping and cooking, and was in need of more countertop space. Downstairs was an unfinished basement, with lots of under utilized space and no insulation creating a cold environment.
After
This home feels like a whole new building. Removing the wall between the kitchen and living room, and installing a beam in the ceiling, we were able to create an open concept layout on the top floor. The space feels bright with fresh paint, new lighting, and windows. The two rooms now blend nicely together with the same flooring and incorporating the wood in the kitchen around the fireplace.
Some noteworthy touches in the Kitchen include a beautiful “duck egg” green tile, this is Walker Zanger’s 6th Ave Series in the color French Clay Gloss. The quartz countertop is 3cm Pental Quartz’s Seashell. The window wall has custom shelves that keep the space open and allow for display of the family’s cookbooks and favorite mugs.
Downstairs was a total transformation! This space was completely gutted to be able to add a bedroom, laundry room, entertainment center and a bathroom with a shower. We also added structural support to all the walls to bring this building up to local earthquake code. This is the strongest house on the block!
Storage was added with the renovated laundry room. A full height cabinet, and countertop above the washer and dryer gives lots of space. The Blanco sink is roomy and tough, for any project thrown at it.
The downstairs bathroom has all the amenities. A heated floor for keeps your toes warm, and a second shower to the house helps the mornings go smoother. A medicine cabinet mirror was added for a little extra storage, and open shelves to give a built in look.

It is their Adura Max series in the color Seaport. |
![]() Deep blanco sink is tough and fashionable. Big enough for any project thrown at it! | ![]() Once an office, this is now a highly functional laundry room. Countertop space above the washer and dryer, a full height storage cabinet and deep blanco sink allows for all kinds of projects to get done in here. | ![]() The bedroom also sports a nice sized closet with fold out doors. They match the style of all the doors in the house. |
![]() A large egress window was added to allow for a bedroom to be added, creating a mini master suite on the basement floor. Plenty of can lights keep the space nice and bright. | ![]() We added switches on each side of the bed, so that you can turn off the lights after getting all settled in. No more stumbling in the dark! |
